After discussing and exchanging ideas between the agricultural cooperative and Acorn and AFoCO, all parties understood each other and look for next action work together to help farmers, especially forest trees farmers that can help improve production, safe food, nutrition and the livelihoods of the community farmers by increasing additional income for farmers’ families. About 10% to 15% additional incomes for smallholders will promote the cultivation of fruit trees to supply the local market, nutrition, economy and environment in a sustainable way in the future.
It should be noted that this project started after a good conversation between Mr. Sok Sotha, CFAP managing director and Board of WFO Asia and Acorn Project Manager, Mr. Harm Haverkort at the United Nations Climate Change Stakeholder Conference in Sharm El-Shiekh, Egypt (COP27) in 2022.
In November 2022, in order to provide opportunities for Cambodians, especially Cambodian farmers across the country to achieve a better life, help reduce effects of climate change, increase food production, reduce the risk of climate change, to be more resilience to climate change of smallholders and to reverse agricultural land degradation. The program also aimed to reverse land erosion, loss of groundwater, and help reducing floods through agroforestry program.
