Session on Soil health & Sustainable landscapes – transformative action at scale!

On 7th September, 2021 there was a great session on soil health organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) which the panelists composed of multi stakeholders come from Development organisations, Development bank, Private sector, Science, University and Farmers’ organisation.

In the conversations during the session on soil health & Sustainable landscape – Transformative action at scale, the IUCN World Conservation Congress, SOK Sotha a founder and managing director of the Cambodian Farmer Federation Association of Agricultural Producers (CFAP) has observed that soil becomes poorer and poorer compared to the last four decades and it is required to improve the quality of soil by starting today.

Due soil quality has degrading accordingly, therefore changing mind set of people to restore nature included lakes, rivers, forest and environment, encourage youth and women to participate in agriculture development, provide higher education and or at least a vocational skill for farmers are now needed. Further, critical policy to protect soil degradation and partnership amongst the stakeholders with farmers’ organisations, however all things will not be able to have achieved without money.

He said, involvement of farmers’ organizations in other international development programs would be effective to build both capacity as resource persons base and strengthening businesses for farmers and farmers’ organisations forward sustainability.

Lots of stories and results of researches/studies were shared by multi stakeholders from soil health to production, technology, markets, coalition amongst stakeholders, policy and so on.
